EMK Ltd., with the appropriate permits, undertakes the collection of hazardous and non-hazardous waste from the entire country – also from abroad for the purpose of utilization. We can carry out the transport directly from waste producers and waste traders, but it is also possible to ship waste directly to our sites. In addition to our central collection point in Sajóbábony, we also have sites in Üllő and Hajdúböszörmény.
When receiving waste, we strive to provide our partners with the highest level of service, we cooperate flexibly in determining delivery periods and in administration. We carry out deliveries up to 40 tons of total weight with our most modern vehicles, in accordance with the requirements of the relevant legislation (e.g. ADR).
The waste pretreatment centre (HEC) building is used for receiving, storing and issuing materials for delivery, but it is also responsible for managing pre-treatment operations and supplying the incineration plant with materials. The processing of waste arriving at EMK Kft. – weighing, receiving, sorting, storing and then preparing it for incineration – is carried out through a special pretreatment process based on the properties and compatibility of the waste upon. The territorial and technical characteristics of the logistics centre enable the processing of various types of waste and the production of a wide range of mixtures. The logistics centre is also responsible for storing, preparing for transportation and issuing the products produced during recovery activities. The basic design aspect during the development of the area was the maximization of the logistic system approach and the quantitative and qualitative material processing, thanks to which our company is capable of processing 34,000 tons of waste annually. The waste pre-treatment centre is also capable of storing 17,000 tons of liquid and 17,000 tons/year of solid waste, which, combined with a shredding capacity of nearly 20,000 tons/year, guarantees the wide range of quality services to our partners' needs.
Our company has the most complex thermal waste disposal technology in the country. We always use the technology that has the least environmental impact for the final disposal of hazardous waste. To this end, we operate 6 special furnaces 24 hours a day, in which solid, liquid, sludge and gaseous waste are disposed of. Our activities comply with the strict requirements of BAT (Best Available Technique). An important element of our process-controlled technologies, which exclude operational errors and thus guarantee safe operation, is heat recovery, during which we recover the thermal energy contained in the waste to the greatest possible extent.
By combining dry and wet flue gas cleaning processes we reduce the emission values of the resulting flue gases below the limit value. This is monitored by our monitoring system, which provides online data to the environmental protection authority.
Based on the principles of circular economy, our company strives to recover the useful and recoverable materials and energy types in waste for the purpose of utilization. Accordingly, final disposal by incineration is carried out only in the case of waste for which there is no better alternative according to the current state of science. However, it should not be overlooked that even during incineration, the recovery of residual materials and energy is extremely important. In accordance with the principles of circular economy, ÉMK Kft. uses the recovery of various valuable metals and metal compounds in the framework of our utilization operations, as well as the separation of ferrous metals during traditional disposal. Thus, in addition to the positive environmental impact of recycling, we significantly reduce the amount of incineration slag remaining at the end of final disposal, and thus the volume of final disposal.
An important task of thermal disposal at EMK Ltd. is also the recovery of the energy content of waste. The energy content of the incinerated waste is extracted in the form of industrial steam produced by heat recovery boilers attached to the technologies.
Through planned developments, we have gradually reduced the use of fossil energy required to operate waste disposal processes.
During thermal treatment, it is also necessary to ensure the further treatment of inorganic residues (filter dust, slag). We have our own landfills for their final disposal, which we also operate in the industrial park. By treating the incineration residue here locally and not having to transport it to remote parts of the country through settlements, we can avoid significant pollution. The closure of our own landfills, operated under very strict conditions at EMK Ltd., is continuously monitored by a technical monitoring system in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations specified in the relevant permits.
We have a fleet of 14 trucks to serve the transportation needs of our partners and our own sites. We can transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste in accordance with the relevant ADR regulations.

Our company treats industrial wastewater from the companies operating in the chemical park at its wastewater treatment plant, which also operates a biological decomposition stage. The most significant industrial wastewaters are wastewaters from the production of fine chemical products that require a special decomposition process, as well as wastewaters from the pharmaceutical industry that carry a high organic matter load.
Based on the modern approach to industrial sites, rainwater falling on the site is considered polluted. Therefore, wastewater falling on industrial facilities is collected in canals and led to the wastewater treatment plant for proper and appropriate treatment.
The municipal wastewater of the companies operating in the industrial park is also treated at our wastewater treatment plant. We also receive the wastewater of Sajóbábony for treatment.
It represents the first stage of treatment of wastewater arriving at the wastewater treatment plant, its basic task is to filter out the so-called macro-pollutants and sand from the wastewater. The settled particles remaining in the wastewater are removed from the purified, organic matter-free wastewater by physical treatment using Dorr settlers.
The biological decomposition process is one of the most important stages of the wastewater treatment system. After the appropriate pre-treatment of the wastewater arriving at the wastewater treatment plant, which is loaded with organic pollutants to varying degrees, a central biological treatment takes place, because of the organic pollutants of the wastewater that decompose below their limit. Nitrogen is also removed from the wastewater with the help of biological organisms, nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. For this, aerobic and anaerobic pools with adequate oxygen supply are created. During the decomposition process, a significant part of the organic substances is incorporated into the cells of the bacteria of the activated sludge that carry out the biological decomposition, i.e. into the biomass.
Part of the biomass is returned to the cleaning process, and the other part, the so-called excess sludge, is sent to sludge treatment.
Where the quality of the wastewater allows, biological treatment is also used as pretreatment as the most economical solution.
The chemical treatment of different types of wastewaters basically serves a dual purpose. The basic task of chemical treatments before biological treatment is to transform the non-biodegradable organic compounds in wastewater to such an extent that the pollutants become biodegradable in the biological stage. These treatments are basically carried out with different oxidizing agents (nitric acid, hydrogen peroxide). The structure of the technology allows the introduction and application of other pretreatment methods (e.g. ozonation, UV treatment, etc.).
At the end of the treatments, the necessary adjustment of the pH value of the purified wastewater is also carried out using chemical methods.
In addition to wastewater, treatments on sewage sludge are also significant, the purpose of which is to prepare the sludge for further treatment and make it compact.
The chemically properly prepared and then settled excess sewage sludge is dewatered and, after drying as necessary, incinerated in EMK Ltd.’s own rotary drum incinerator.
Many companies are required to submit environmental declarations, data reports or notifications to the competent environmental protection authority. Our company undertakes to prepare and submit these declarations to the National Environmental Information System (OKIR) based on the data provided by our clients. Our clients can also view the completed declarations through their own access.
Our specialists can provide our clients with comprehensive advice on the establishment, expansion and operation of plants dealing with sub-threshold and hazardous substances. This advice includes the plant identification procedure, liaising with authorities, performing hazardous industrial safety administrative duties and organising exercises.
