Our company's main activities include the incineration-based disposal of hazardous waste and the treatment of industrial wastewater. The hazardous waste is processed at a waste incineration facility with an annual capacity of 20,600 tonnes, using various incineration technologies. Currently, in Hungary and—according to our knowledge—in the surrounding region, there is no satisfactory treatment method for catalytic converter waste originating from the automotive and chemical industries that is both environmentally friendly and capable of returning valuable raw materials to the economy in a resource-efficient way. We aim to seize the potential in this challenge by developing an industrially applicable technology. The planned technology involves two key steps: The thermal treatment of catalytic converter waste. The further preparation of the resulting slag material for the recovery of valuable metals (e.g., precious and rare earth metals), making it suitable for resale as a secondary raw material. The equipment to be procured as part of this project addresses the second challenge. Currently, heat exchanger elements require cleaning after 72 hours of operation due to the formation of solid, cohesive deposits on heat transfer surfaces. These must be removed manually using specialized tools, which presents several issues: Achieving the required level of cleanliness is difficult. The manual cleaning process may damage the equipment, potentially leading to failure. The process is labor-intensive and frequent, incurring high maintenance costs. To solve these problems, this project includes the purchase of a HDP 142 high-pressure cleaner powered by an electric motor from HAMMELMANN, along with the necessary accessories. This advanced system enables significantly higher levels of cleanliness and consistency. Operating at extremely high pressures, it removes contaminants from metal surfaces more reliably and efficiently than manual methods. The improved cleanliness reduces the frequency of cleaning operations, as surface contamination builds up more slowly. This results in: More predictable and reliable operation, Lower operating costs, More efficient performance for ÉMK Kft., and Stronger job retention capabilities. This project is co-financed by the European Union and the European Regional Development Fund under the Economic Development and Innovation Operational Programme (GINOP).
