Waste Reduction throughMetal Recovery

Sajóbábony, Hungary, March 3, 2016 In Hungary, at the Sajóbábony Chemical Industrial Park, ÉMK Ltd. is implementing an investment project supported by the Norway Grants. The project aims to recover ferrous metals from the slag generated during the incineration of hazardous waste, thereby reducing the amount of resulting waste. More than 37% of the project cost is financed by the investor’s own funds, while the remaining HUF 159,004,951 is provided by the Kingdom of Norway through the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009–2014.

Enhancing Our Competitiveness Through Adaptive Technological Innovation

At present, there is no satisfactory treatment method in Hungary—or, to our knowledge, in the surrounding region—that can process spent catalyst waste from the automotive and chemical industries in an environmentally friendly way, while simultaneously generating value by returning usable raw materials to the economy. We aim to seize the opportunity inherent in this gap and develop a technology that can be implemented in an industrial environment to meet this need.

Enhancement of Service Efficiency

The ÉMK Northern Hungary Environmental Protection Ltd. has launched a development project at its Sajóbábony site aimed at significantly increasing the overall efficiency of its hazardous waste management and disposal services. In response to the evolving and increasingly demanding market conditions, the current development involves the installation and commissioning of an innovative technology-based unit that operates on the principle of thermal oxidation. This facility will be capable of treating and recovering approximately 2,500 tons of solid, liquid, gaseous, and sludge-like hazardous waste annually.
